“A phone rings, a sound not unusual but alluring nonetheless, you never quite know who’ll be on the other end. In fact chances are you’ll never get to the bottom of it, but why not have a chat with another passing stranger who has similarly stopped at an identical phone just out of sight, and see what titbits and temptations they might have to share of an eve.”
In this scene, two old phones are connected together and placed some way apart, one on the bridge and another on the canal path beneath. When one phone is picked up, the other rings, and two strangers can chat.
